Martian Stained Glass

Image Title: Martian Stained Glass
Source: Mars Global Surveyor

Description

It was the pattern of defrosting present in the image Defrosting Martian Crater that made me think of stained glass. I therefore resolved to create an image in the spirit of a complex stained glass window. I believe that I succeeded in my goal of creating an image that while alien has those qualities of pattern and colorization that are common to stained glass.

Source Image Background

The point of inspiration and initiation for this image was a picture taken by the Mars Global Surveyor Narrow Angle Camera of a pedestal crater in the southern circumpolar region of Mars.

Image Processing

This image was created using only Adobe Photoshop.

I have created a low resolution version of Martian Stained Glass for use as a desktop wallpaper. Because of the complexity of the image, I had to use a very high JPEG compression setting to get the file down to a reasonable size. As a consequence, the image available here compares poorly with the full-size, full-resolution, non-compressed version. Note that this wallpaper version is made available for your personal use only. It is not to be modified or redistributed in any form by any means. All rights are retained by the artist.
